Our family headed to Banjy's, with some trepidation after reading the other reviews, fresh off an inter-island plane and ready for late lunch. However we were very pleasantly surprised: excellent fish tacos, a very solid chicken club sandwich with sweet potato fries (yum), and two burgers filled e bill and more. Service was pleasant and efficient.

We went here because it was close to the Paniolo Greens and they agreed to put on our football game. Despite earlier reviews the service was great and the $2 tacos were good. Happy hour beers were $3 and wine $4. Probably one of the cheaper meals we had in Hawaii.

Loved the Kalua pulled pork tacos washed down with a cold draft Kona Longboard! Friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere.

Yet another mediocre meal in paradise. But I consider this a "win" as I usually get to pay a lot more money to have a less-than-average meal.

Went there on a Friday night. Ordered a margarita with salt. After about 20 minutes the waiter came back to verify I wanted salt on my mai tai! Although I told him I had not ordered a mai tai, he insisted that I did. My husband even told him I didn't but alas, he refused to believe me. Pizza arrived cold and although I got the attention of another server since ours was nowhere to be found, my husband refused to send it back to be warmed up because he was scared of what they would do to it. After my mediocre margarita, I decided to play it safe and order a beer on tap. Amazingly, the beer was completely flat. Oh - and I had to go up to the bar to try to get it since again, the waiter was nowhere to be found. They did credit us for the beer which was good because I couldn't drink it! We live in Waikoloa and continue to wait for a decent restaurant.

We are returning customers. We love the waitress Jasmine. Good prices for the area. Good local beers on tap. Nice to sit outside. We will be back. Good selection of kids meals for $5.

Worst experience ever!!!! Long story short. My friend gave the cart girl a $50 bill for a Gatorade at the turn. She gave him change for a $20. When he tried to tell her, she completely blew him off and said that he gave her a $20. I saw the $50 in his hand before he gave it to her. Anyway she would not correct the error so we asked for a manager. Same story but now we had to wait to get the change after we finished our second half of the round. Back at the clubhouse we met with the manager who insisted we were at fault! How is this possibly happening? Why has it gone this far to fix an internal error while inconveniencing the guests. Anyway the owner, Karen, walks up to us and hands my friend change for a $20 and expected us to leave. Karen was very rude and short with us, then she just walked away. Expecting her to return we waited at the bar while the manager yelled at this poor elderly gentleman asking questions about the menu. To our surprise the manager walked over to us and stated that Karen had left to do errands and that we needed to leave. What?! I have never been treated so poorly and felt that we were discriminated upon. She pushed us out by the port and continued to yell. We were just about to call the police when the GM of the golf course walked by. We told him what had happened and he resolved everything that should have been done an hour before. They are not even responsible for the clubhouse because it is a separate concession. Thank you golf course! Banjy's on the other hand was the worst experience ever. With an owner like Karen, I see why they are horrible!

Staying in a condo a couple blocks away. Been 3 times in our 7 nights in Waikoloa Village. The pizza is pretty darn good and the other dishes we've tried have been solid as well (mango chicken was especially delicious). There has been live music two of the three nights - very fun! Open late for Hawaii so it's a great place to grab a late dinner and mingle with the locals as well as other vacationers. There's not a lot going on in Waikoloa Village other than a nice little grocery store and a couple small shops - Banjy's is definitely the place to be if you want to stay in the village.

Refused to honor the 10% discount. Don't waste your time. This place is terrible. 15 person party and not one meal would rank higher than below average. Rude patrons. Waitress is trying but can't keep up, not necessarily her fault. There has to be better options than this in this area.

On Thursday, 7/17/14, my girlfriend and I ate at Banjy's Paradise Bar and Grill for lunch. Atmosphere / Decor: The restaurant is small. There's seating inside and outside. The wrap around bar is pretty big. The dining tables and chairs are pretty outdated. The restaurant itself needs a little upgrading. Food: I ordered the Half Ham Cheddar Sandwich with their award winning Tortilla Chicken Soup and a side of potato salad. The ham sandwich wasn't good at all. It looked like a kid made it. The sourdough sliced bread was burnt and hard. The sandwich came with no mayo or mustard. Who the heck wants to eat a dry sandwich with no condiments on it? Not me! The sandwich was way below average. The soup was just okay. It was very fresh and had a lot of flavor but I don't see how it could of won any rewards. It wasn't not your socks off good. The potato salad was really good! I liked it a lot and the dill made it taste unique compared to other basic potato salads. My girlfriend ordered a bowl of their award winning Tortilla Chicken Soup. My girlfriend liked her soup a lot. She said it tasted very good and fresh. Service: The service was horrible and probably one of the worst I've ever experienced at a restaurant. We were seated at 1 pm and didn't receive menus until about 10 minutes after we sat down. The restaurant wasn't even busy or crowded. There were two waitresses but it seemed as if one was doing all of the work and waiting on every single table. The blonde haired waitress who was our waitress was literally doing every thing and working very hard. The other waitress was like dead weight! It took about 15 to 20 minutes just to get water. We finally received our food about and hour into it. Overall: This restaurant needs help! When there are only two waitresses working and only 1 of them is doing everything, the dining experience is definitely going to be a disaster. The management and/or owner should properly staff the restaurant and make sure everyone has a good experience. The fact that it takes so long to get a menu, glass of water and for it to take about an hour to receive a simple ham sandwich is just unacceptable in my book!!!

I'm not impressed. The food and service desperately needs help. The music was way way too loud. I was glad when the band took a break, so I could eat in peace and leave ASAP. The best thing I can say about my experience is; the potato salad was delicious.

This place would be better if there was more staff, lunch can be a while so dont go if you on time limit. Food was good for bar & grill just the basics nothing amazing. nice view of the driving range, it can get pretty entertaining.

My family loved everything we ordered tonight. Prime Rib Sliders, Hamburger Steak, Teri Chicken, and a Cheese Pizza, all delicious. Well worth the quick drive from the resorts. Not well lighted, but it's a bar, so understandable. Thank You Banjys!

The food at Banjy's is good. It's a sports bar at the golf course with a good selection of local beers on tap as well as other big brands. I came here twice because Banjy's had some of the best free wifi in the area. I was able to get some work done, watch some baseball while enjoying a well-priced meal with good beers. The server I had both times was Jasmine. I think it's safe to say she's not really into her job. The first day she was in a bad mood and didn't bother to hide it. The second time I came she was a bit friendlier but didn't provide the best service. Not a real people pleaser. Normally when you pay for your meal with cash, the server brings you your change back. Jasmine didn't do that. She kept the difference, checked out and went home. I sat there waiting for my change until I had to go ask for it. The new server let me know she was gone. To be fair, it was only a matter of a few dollars so not a big deal. But I wasn't planning on leaving it all for her because of how poor she was at her job, but I did camp out all day working on my laptop. I would have liked to have had the choice.

Terrible experience! That's really my message. An expensive frozen dinner warmed up. My grandparents and boyfriend are here for dinner. There was hardly anyone in there except for the musician and a loud/obnoxious drunk table (which is ok) We all had separate meals, and we were all extremely disappointed. Shrimp Scampi: Had more onions in there than noodles. Who puts onions in shrimp scampi?! Chicken Alfredo: Terribly bland. My boyfriend said there wasn't any taste. Plus the chicken was obviously pre-frozen. NY Steak: Waaaay too peppered and took away all taste of a NY Strip. Typically people order a steak because they want a good amount of meat. This was a thin cutting, and overlooked because of the cut. Worst- the vegetables that came with it was high-sodium saucy. Good baked potato though. Terrible wine menu. Terrible customer service. The waiter kept forgetting things and was obviously not trained to be a waiter. DO NOT COME HERE FOR DINNER.

This place has killer tacos! We arrived in the evening and were seated on the lanai. We ordered tacos (shrimp and pork), steak fajitas, and a make your own burger with sweet potato fries. The portions were generous and very tasty! Although everything was great, we all liked the shrimp tacos the best. The desert was HUGE!!!! The service was quick and the atmosphere was casual. We loved it and hope to return before our trip is over!

Not bad at all. Cute little bar/restaurant with a happy hour! I find their liquor drinks watered down (especially for a little local bar!), but I just stuck with wine after that, so no worries! Food is actually pretty good. My mom had the Cobb Salad with the Sesame Dressing on the side. She really enjoyed it! I had the daily dinner special of Blackened Ono w/shrimp hash...Yummy!!! It was great!! The servers are always pleasant, we seem to usually get an older woman with blonde hair and she is very sweet!

We found Banjy's from a Yelp search. We wanted someplace near where we're staying, someplace casual and someplace good. We found all of it. We were pleasantly surprised. We would definitely recommend it to others and go back ourselves.

Must've hit it at the wrong time or something. They didn't have their award-winning fish tacos not their home-made pineapple cake. Short ribs and pulled pork sandwich were tasty, as was potato salad. Beer was good, not flat. Overall, not bad

I live across the street but never stopped in. What a mistake that was, AWESOME food AWESOME service AWESOME atmosphere. ..live music was AWESOME, mix of great cover tunes and Hawaiian. Beers were ice cold. Some families with kids, some locals, some tourist and some on a romantic date. All kinds. One of the best dining out experiences I've had in over 15 Yeats on the Big Island.

Giving 2 stars because the service here is terrible; granted, we were a group of 5 on Taco Tuesday but the restaurant was not packed. We were sat at 630p, food order not taken until almost 7p. Waitress told us at 720p that the kitchen was "plating it." Food came out at 745p. She was pleasant enough but neglected to bring an order of fries when we finally did get our food--we had 3 orders of fries, she brought 2 and stated the 3rd was coming right out. "Right out" was 10 minutes later. The bill came late as well. When I asked her why our food was late, she made an excuse that the kitchen completes orders as they receive them. No apology, no other validation of our inconvenience. The quality of food is average. Ambiance is a golf course bar setting.

What a difference can be in couple days. Two days ago nice pleasant experience. Today different server who made us to write this review and not to come back any more. Lecture us about our meal order with salad on the side. Didn't know about WiFi service. Switched TV channels on her own to make local couple guys happy. Made faces when we questioned her. Making definitively hostile atmosphere, like you are not from here ... you are not local.

Came here for a free dinner after staying at Paniola Greens. Parking is available by the clubhouse in a nice big lot out there. There is a bar area, as well as a nice big patio where you can watch golfers do their thing. The interior is a little bit dated, but it goes with the laid-back character of this state. The night we went, there was a local Japanese guy singing classic Western songs such as Beatles. Potato skins - decent but quite greasy. Clam chowder - average taste. Nice chunks of potatoes inside. Prime rib - oh wow this was good. Served with gravy and horseradish, and a baked potato. Special mention for those who enjoy eating cows. Lava cake - not sure if this is an American thing, but this thing is waaaaaay too sweet. There were 3 of us sharing one and we couldn't finish it. Served with ice cream on the side. The entire thing is drenched in raspberry syrup. I would not recommend this dish. Overall it's a decent place to chill if you're in the area.

GREAT friendly environment, great martinis and food! Customers were ranting about their Bloody Mary mix! Will be back for one!

Amazing find! We had the pulled pork and tortilla soup. Didn't expect much for a country club restaurant but we were pleasantly surprised. Large portions, great service and perfect balance between sweet and spice.

Came here during a company trip and I'm regretting what I ordered. Not sure if the item I ordered was on the regular menu, but I was disappointed. Banjy's gave us two choices when we were here with the company; the pork chop and the mahi mahi. A friend got the pork chop and told me how juicy it was. I think it would have been better than the mahi mahi. It was disgusting. It was super dry, and the hollandaise sauce + some sort of weird cheesy rice left a sour taste in my mouth. The only good part was a little bit if crab that they put under the fish. The only reason I'm giving 3 stars is because of the staff and pork chop. So in conclusion: Food: 5/10 Staff: 9/10 Ambience: 7/10

The Good: Food was OK. I had a half turkey sandwich and tortilla soup. The sandwich was "meh", but the soup was great - spicy and flavorful. And the food was well-presented. View for diners in the lanai area was very nice, overlooking the golf course. The Bad: The place is hard-to-find. There are no signs near the road, and nav systems are little help. There are no restrooms within the restaurant. You go outside and around the corner to find them. Service was slooooowwww. 10 minutes before we were greeted and 30+ minutes before our food showed up. We were a little late for our tee time because of it. Prices were about 50% more than an equivalent meal on the mainland, which seems fairly typical for the Big Island.

I had the steak hamburger thing with rice. Burger was burned on outside, rice was sticky. It was ok because I was looking for some more American type food, but in the 48 states this would not cut it. Service was slow but friendly. Family members had other dishes that were good. Worth eating if you need some inexpensive non island food close to the hilton.

Since reopening the kitchen & changing staff the food has greatly improved and consistency is maintained. My favorites: kalbi ribs, chicken katsu, tortilla soup and daily specials . And the best part of Banjys is Jazz- the waitress and heart of the serving staff.

We stayed at the Paniola Greens and have eaten here twice. For the money, convenience, speed and quality we are very pleased. They had an excellent guitar player during dinner and the service was quick and courteous. We may go back again for a 3rd time while here. The seafood is excellent and we really like the sweet potato fries and many of the other pupu's. Nice view of the golf course putting green and surrounding mountains. Outdoor and indoor seating and a nice bar with TV's. If you are in the resort, this is the place to go if you don't want to drive 25 minutes and spend twice as much.

    (5)
  • Susan W.

They were closed when we came here due to a small fire. We called for the next 3 days to see if they had reopened & they never did while we were here. Guess it wasn't such a small fire. Will try to go there next time in the area .

  • Matthew A.

Went here to watch football, good number of TVs and decent staff. Order of wings came out hot but raw, replacement order was cooked & steamy, nothing spectacular. Nachos were coated in guacamole, beans & cheese which looked good. Again, just average. Chips were thin & broke when dipping it softened from grease. I would just order beer here, can't go wrong with Kona

Not your typical country club, which could be a good or bad thing depending. I was just happy I was allowed in wearing cutoff jean shorts. Friendly service and good cocktails. Not great ambiance, but they do have outdoor seating overlooking the driving range. Super-friendly service. The best happy hour place I found around Waikoloa.

  • Kailey O.

The waitress snapped at us when we walked in with our swim suits- she made us go back and change before we could step into the patio of the restaurant. after we were dressed appropriately we ordered beer, and i got a burger. the mac salad was good and so was the burger. the restaurant said we could eat by the pool, then the pool manager came and yelled at us for it. you cant win.

  • Thea B.

I got the mahi fish sandwich and the waitress was new I think ...she said they didn't have a sauce other than ranch for the sweet potato fries and nothing for the fish sandwich until another waitress told her to bring an aioli sauce. The sandwich was a little dry but I have had it before and it was great. My boyfriend got the Ono plate for $20 and this fish was really small and he had to use his butter knife...and he put some effort in. The fish was overcooked and seemed to have sat because it wasn't hot and the edges looked old It had a sweet chili sauce that really overpowered and was just that a sweet chili sauce out of the bottle. I was disappointed.

Good bar with great happy hour specials ($3 drafts on Kona Brews!). We had several things off the menu and the food wasn't bad, but the pizza was very good. Only thing separating this from being a 4-star review is that there really isn't anything to DO at this bar... two quiet TVs, no games... it kept us from coming back on a weeknight more than once while we stayed within walking distance of it.

  • Phil H.

Second time around, the service has fallen apart. We asked for sugar, waited...waited...finally we asked again. 3rd time. The hamburger steak +egg (ie moco loco), was 'meh' at best. The egg was not yolky. There was not enough Gravy, and I did not receive my potato salad (which by the way is awesome). Ribs were great, buffalo chicken salad was great. Blue cheese burger was 'meh'. Service was appalling this time. Last night (Saturday night) service was amazing. Just amazing. This time, 'meh'. Will likely be back again while we are in Hawaii. I will rate again if so!

We were looking for a local bar near where we were staying (Paniolo Greens) and found this place. I can imagine it would be more fun if it hadn't been such a ghost town. We were pretty much the only customers in the place, and STILL it took forever to get things ordered and get our food. Afterwards (because we used a YELP coupon) it took about 3 times of going back and forth to get the bill corrected. But the food was OK and the atmosphere was nice. Open building with a breeze coming in...although the day we were there was pretty blustery and this sort of caused some napkin problems. I would go again in a pinch, but if youre looking for a good party/bar night, might wanna try someplace else, or go with a big enough group that you make the party yourself = )

We stayed at Paniolo Greens recently on vacation and stumbled into this place one night after a very long day, looking for some drinks. It didn't disappoint. We came looking for tasty bar food and good drinks, and that's exactly what we got. I think we came her 3 times that week. The pizza was tasty, the tacos were great and the drinks were equally awesome. We weren't expecting a fancy scmancy place (one night I went in my pjs), and it was the perfect place to unwind and watch the end of the World Series. It didn't hurt that we could walk there, too.

Our last trip to Hawaii we got dinner here at Banjys. I got a shrimp stir fry and my fiancee got chicken curry. Veggies were nice and crisp flavors were delicious! Food is really amazing here. Prices were reasonable.

Best fish tacos you will have in your life. Ever. Get the sweet potato french fries -- best fries you will have in your life. Ever. The fish-n-chips were phenomenal. I think it was locally-caught mahi, but whatever it was, it was amazing.

I ordered a couple of margarita's and a couple of fish tacos from the bar, and since Banjy's wasn't too crowded/busy the waitress/bartender brought my food out to me at the pool (so sweet and unexpected). The tacos were great. I loved the taro chips that were mixed in with the tortilla chips. Great customer service and very friendly. Made for a nice day lounging by the pool.

We live in California and were planning a small wedding at A-Bay beach in September 2011. We needed a restaurant with a private room to host a small, casual wedding reception. We found Banjy's Paradise Bar and Grill online and sent an email inquiring about the space. We promptly received a very warm and enthusiastic phone call from Jim and Karen, the owners. We proceeded to plan a wonderful and affordable event long distance via phone and email. When we landed on the island days before our event we were overjoyed to find everything was better than we expected. Jim and Karen were incredibly generous and accommodating and willing to help us make everything just right. Our wedding reception was perfect! The food was amazing and delicious, the room we rented was just what we wanted, the wait staff was very nice, and we even had a small bar set up in the room. Jim and Karen even allowed us to hang special lighting, decorate the room and play music through their sound system. We also ordered five flavors of pie through Karen and we are still getting compliments months later on the amazing pies we served at the wedding. I would highly recommend Banjy's as a restaurant/bar and also for casual private events. We couldn't have been happier or more grateful for the service we received. Thank you Banjy's for a wonderful wedding!

Went on Mother's Day. Ordered the pasta. It had no flavor. Replaced with a hamburger which was a Costco patty. It would be nice to have Big Island beef on the menu. I don't think we will return. We had been looking forward to a good restaurant in the Village. I hope it improves.

I very much want this place to be better. I want them to survive. Nonetheless, what they are doing now won't hack it for very long. There have been many restaurants in this location, and I fear there will be a be one in about a year. Positive: you can get a decently priced beer at happy hour -- when they get around to delivering it. The food is even slower. You get quite hungry waiting for the food, and then when it arrives, it is of rather poor quality. So, you wonder why you waited. I suspect the water is gone bad, or some such thing. The people around town say that they can't keep a cook on the job. They have a big menu. That could be the problem. What they need is a menu overhaul. Figure out 10 items (or less) that they can make well and get that right first. Oh by the way, decent restaurants use all fresh ingredients. That is not the case here. Good luck. I hope the reports get better. I want to better support them, really.
